Moisture Wicking Fabric

That moisture wicking fabric is used for keeping people comfortable while working out or playing sports but can also be important when it comes to the prevention of hypothermia.  Moisture wicking fabric does as it says and draws sweat and perspiration off of your skin and moves it out to the exterior of the fabric.  When the moisture is on the surface of a fabric it will evaporate faster than when it is trapped between your skin and the garment.  We are starting to see more moisture wicking fabrics being used for business and business casual clothing as well for those who live and work in hot and humid conditions.

When it comes to moisture wicking fabric being used to prevent hypothermia it works in the same way because it is drawing the sweat and perspiration away from the skin.  In cold weather conditions exercisers tend to layer up and when they begin to perspire the moisture is now sitting on their skin.  Once the person begins to slow down the moisture will begin to cool or freeze on their skin causing the person to become cold very quickly.  This situation would be like wearing a soaking wet undershirt in below-freezing temperatures which is not only uncomfortable but can also cause serious illness or even death.  Using the moisture wicking material pulls the sweat to the surface of the material and this issue is largely avoided.

More and more garments are starting to be made out of moisture wicking fabrics to include some undergarments like sports bras.  You can find long-sleeved shirts, t-shirts, polo shirts and even undershirts that are made out of a moisture wicking fabric.  Running pants, trousers, leggings, pullovers, jackets and fleeces are being made out of moisture wicking fabric now to help keep exercise and outdoor enthusiasts cool on hot days and dry on cold days.  Garments made out of moisture wicking material can be more expensive because of the technology used in creating fabric that pulls moisture away from the skin however it is still comparatively priced for the quality of garment that you are getting.
